FFA Insider

Subscription Features

Now that 2020 projections are fully available (including DSTs & rookies!) we wanted to remind our reader base of the benefits of our FFA Insider tools for the quickly approaching fantasy season.

When you subscribe to FFA Insider, you’ll be able to get full access to our weekly projections and optimal DFS lineups for the entire season. To sign up for FFA Insider, head over to our webapps. Click the “Sign In” button (top right), and then create a new account under the tab “Create a Free Account”. After creating a new account, click the “Subscribe” button (top right), and enter your payment information.

We are able to accept all major credit cards directly and securely through Stripe (we don’t obtain or hold on to any credit card information). If you would like to pay by PayPal or inquire about other payment options please contact sales@fantasyfootballanalytics.net.

How To Make Our Tools Work for You

Our Lineup Optimizer is built to create lineups for most major DFS sites such as FanDuel & Draftkings while allowing you to make choices around risk tolerance and projected floors/ceilings to help in both 50/50 & Guaranteed Prize Pools games. For redraft leagues, you can see what line-ups are projected to score the most points and adjust your draft and salary cap usage accordingly.

With our Projections tool you can decide who to sit, start, and pick up in your season long league and make sure you’re in the best possible position to win the championship.

We’ve also refined the visuals to include ADP vs Projections which can help you find draft steals and targets in auction drafts.

Introducing 2020 Projections

We have updated our Shiny App and API with projections for the 2020 fantasy football season. The projections incorporate our balanced “wisdom of the crowd” approach and have been the most accurate projections over the last several years. The data from previous years is also available to compare the accuracy of our sources.

Our gold mining chart can be used during a draft to compare ADP to projections to find undervalued and high upside players as well as in season to pick a winning lineup. You can access the Projections tool via the app here:

http://apps.fantasyfootballanalytics.net

A preview of our 2020 Projections

For instructions on how to use the app, see here.  We also have a Draft Optimizer tool (see here).  See our articles on how to win your Snake Draft and Auction Draft.  We will be updating the projections as the season approaches with more sources of projections.

In order to access the most advanced features of the app, you will need a subscription to FFA Insider. A FFA Insider subscription will allow you to save unlimited custom settings, download historical projections, examine the accuracy of historical projections, and more.

We also have an API that you can use to access our projections. You can find more information about our API here.

With our API you get access to all the data we use to build our draft and daily fantasy tools:

– All historical projections (including all seasonal and weekly)
– Weighted projections using our accuracy analysis

How To Use

To subscribe to the API, you need to create a free profile and click the “Subscribe” button. Then you can see the subscription options described below. Once you enter your credit card information and click the “Subscribe” button, your API key will appear at the bottom of the “My Account” modal.

When you have subscribed, instructions for accessing the API are here.

Pricing

Basic – Preseason access: All historical and seasonal data updated until Week 1 of the 2018 Season (built with draft tools in mind): $1,000/season

Premier – In season access: All historical and seasonal data above as well as weekly projections updated daily in season (built with daily fantasy tools in mind to generate weekly projections): $1,500/season

We will be looking to add additional features throughout the season based on user feedback such as risk, ECR, an index of subscription projections, and more customized projections based on league settings.

Please drop us a line below or reach out to sales@fantasyfootballanalytics.net with any additional questions!

API Instructions

The Fantasy Football Analytics API allows developers to programmatically access our data in JSON format. Users must pay for a standalone subscription to obtain a unique API key granting access. You must have an account on the Fantasy Football Analytics web app in order to subscribe to the API (simply click the “Register” tab in the navigation bar at http://apps.fantasyfootballanalytics.net/ to set up an account if you don’t already have one).

There are two API subscription types, “Basic” and “Premier”, both of which allow access to seasonal and weekly projections for previous seasons and to seasonal projections for the current season. Only the “Premier” subscription allows access to weekly projections for the current season. Both subscriptions also allow unrestricted access to ADP data for all seasons to date.

To subscribe to the API, sign into the Fantasy Football Analytics web app, click the “Subscribe” tab in the navigation bar, and use the select box to choose your subscription type. After you enter your credit card information and click the “Subscribe” button, the “Subscribe” modal will disappear. If you have successfully subscribed to the API, your API key will appear at the bottom of the “My Account” modal.

The API has two endpoints, “proj” and “adp”, which allow the user to get averaged projections and ADP data, respectively. API requests are expected to be made in the form of a simple HTTP GET, with users specifying various query parameters. Specifically, the optional query parameters for the “proj” endpoint are:

• pos: One of “qb” (default), “rb”, “wr”, “te”, “k”, “dst”, “dl”, “lb”, or “db”.
• season: A year between 2008 and the most recent NFL season (default), inclusive.
• week: An integer between 0 and 20, inclusive. The option week = 0 (default) corresponds to seasonal projections, whereas all other options correspond to weekly projections. The options week > 17 are used to designate playoff weeks. Weekly projections are not available for seasons prior to 2015.
• type: Scheme used to average individual projection sources; one of “average” (simple average; default), “robust” (robust average, which is resistant to outliers), or “weight” (weighted average, whereby the weights are based on historical projection accuracy).

The optional query parameters for the “adp” endpoint are:

• season: A year between 2015 and the most recent NFL season (default), inclusive.
• type: League type; either “std” (standard; default) or “ppr” (points-per-reception).

API calls can be made using a programming language of your choice. In particular, the example below demonstrates how to get weighted average projections for team defenses for the 2016 season using R. (Be sure to replace “YOUR_API_KEY” with your actual unique API key for the Authorization header.) Analogously, ADP data may be retrieved by changing the “endpoint” parameter to “adp” and setting the query parameters appropriately.

# query parameters
pos <- "dst"
season <- 2016
week <- 0
type <- "weight"

# construct API URL
protocol <- "http"
host <- "api.fantasyfootballanalytics.net/api"
endpoint <- "proj"
query.string <- paste0("?pos=", pos, "&season=", season, "&week=", week, "&type=", type)
URL <- paste0(protocol, "://", host, "/", endpoint, query.string)

# API key
api.key <- YOUR_API_KEY

# call API to get JSON
json <- httr::content(httr::GET(URL, httr::add_headers(Authorization = paste("Basic", api.key))),
type = "text")
# convert JSON to data frame
df <- jsonlite::fromJSON(json)

Please note that empty/null values are intentionally omitted from the returned JSON, following Google’s JSON style guide.

Off Season Content

Happy New Year from the Fantasy Football Analytics team and we hope all of our readers had successful playoff runs.

As part of our recurring monthly subscription, we have refined and expanded our tools to help you get ready for next season.  Unlike other sites, our tools are available throughout the year, including the off-season.  For more info about FFA Insider including what you get and how to subscribe, see here.  Below is a description of some of the important off-season content you can use to prepare for next season.

Historical Data

Using the app, you’ll be able to see projections and actual performance all the way back to 2008.  Just select the Year/Week under “General Settings”.

Accuracy Chart

The historical data can also be used in our Accuracy plot to help you determine which projections were the most accurate and find the optimal mix of sources.

Custom Tiers

You can also customize your tiers.  Unlike other site’s tiers, our tiers are determined empirically and take into account the distribution of each player’s projected points (not just the average projection).  We use Cohen’s d to determine whether two players are in the same or a different tier.  Cohen’s d is the most common measure of “effect size“.  Cohen’s d estimates the magnitude of difference between two players’ distributions of projected points.  We set a default threshold of 1.0, corresponding to a large effect size, for determining whether two players are in different tiers (if two players have a Cohen’s d greater than 1, they will be considered to be in different tiers).  Users can customize their tiers by changing the Cohens d thresholds in the app (under “General Settings”).  If you want more players in the same tier (i.e., fewer tiers), make the threshold values larger.  If you want fewer players in the same tier (i.e., more tiers), make the threshold values smaller.

We’re also always looking for feedback, so if you have any ideas on features or analyses you would like to see, drop us a line below!

Uploading Custom Auction Values

We are excited to announce the addition of another highly requested feature this season, the ability to upload custom auction values to our Lineup Optimizer.

How To

1) To add your own auction values first download the custom cost template CSV.

2) Then populate with your own inputs.  Missing values or missing rows will default to the preset value for your chosen settings.  That is, players’ costs will not be over-written if they are blank or missing in the custom cost file that you upload.

3) Then go to “Auction Settings” and pick “yes” under the “Use Custom Costs Values?” settings and select your updated custom cost CSV.  This will upload your own values into our Optimizer and let you customize further for players you believe are under- or over-valued in your league.

2017 App Update

As you may have noticed, we have made a few changes to our apps for the 2017 season to bring you a smoother and quicker experience while also adding more advanced and customizable views.

Most visibly, we moved the apps to Shiny so we can continue to build on our use of R and add new features and improvements throughout the season.  We expect the apps to better handle high traffic load this season during draft season and peak traffic.

In addition to the ability to create and save custom settings, you can also choose the columns you view in our Projections tool.  We have also added more advanced metrics such as weekly VOR and Projected Points Per Dollar (ROI) for those of you in auction leagues.  With a free account, you’ll be able to create and save one custom setting.  If you get an FFA Insider subscription, you’ll be able to create and save unlimited custom settings.

Up next is the ability to upload custom auction values to make it easier to use during auction drafts.

We are also always looking to add new features, so feel free to drop us a suggestion in the Comments section below!

Introducing: Saving Custom Settings

You asked, we listened. This season we’ve been working hard on introducing one of our most highly requested features, the ability to save custom settings. When logged into your account you’ll have the ability to save league settings for your custom leagues this season to make it quicker and easier to access projections during drafts and in season that are custom tailed to your league settings.

First log into your account (you’ll be able to create and save one custom setting with a free account, and unlimited custom settings with an FFA Insider subscription). Then input your league settings and click on “Create Custom Settings” under “Settings”.

Then name your custom settings and click “Save”.

After creating custom settings, you can update custom settings by making edits to the custom settings, and then click on “Save Custom Settings” under “Settings.”

Loading Custom Settings

The next time you open the app, you will be able to load these custom scoring settings under the “League Settings”. Make sure to select your newly custom setting in the “League Scoring” dropdown box.
